Breakfast was delicious. The dining area was very nice, with different British items throughout. Our bags were going to weigh more on the flight back, so we stopped at the UPS Store on Sutter Street, and shipped back our jeans, which weighed 14 pounds. They would not get back until the following Monday, but that was OK.
After retrieving the car from the garage, I was going to play disc golf at Golden Gate Park, and Gwyn had her eye on a shopping mall. The park was very pretty. Lots of people running and walking their dogs. Gwyn dropped me off near the first tee. There were a few groups ready to tee off. There was a father and his young son. When I told another group that I played at Maple Hill, the response was “Fuck You!” He was a big fan of Simon Lizotte. The front nine were a bit tight, and there were some fences hung to prevent you from hitting people on the next tee. For the back nine, two guys let me play along with them, since I kept coming up behind them. All in all, a lot of fun, and a nice course. I missed a birdie by hitting the basket. So close!
I saw that Gwyn was not too far away from the course. She had tried to go to the mall, but finding parking was tough. So, she drove around for a bit, and found a small cafe to read and enjoy a coffee. After parking the car at Prestige Parking for the night, we walked back to the White Swan Inn to change. The Powell and Market Street cable car was our next destination. I downloaded the app to purchase tickets, and we were set. The mall that Gwyn wanted to go to was right behind us.
As we waited for the cable car (we got onto one that was not in service first), a preacher and a couple of his followers started preaching to the captive audience. Over towards our right, in front of the Gap, a lady was laying face down on the sidewalk, her underwear showing, with her pants down a bit. Someone woke her up, and she moved on, but yelling and swearing at everyone and everything. She needed a lot of help.
A few homeless came by and asked for money. It was a lovely, sunny day as we waited for the cable car. When it arrived, the workers had to turn it around to face going back up the streets. There was a roundabout that they would push the cable car onto, and then push it using their bodies to turn the car around. Then, they would push it off of the roundabout, and back onto the street to connect to the cable underground. And away we went!
We took the cable car all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf. We stopped at Starbucks and got a drink, and then walked towards Pier 39. There were many shops and places to eat on the pier. Not having eaten lunch, we stopped at the Fog Harbor Fish House. They participate in the Monterey Bay sustainable program, and are 100% verified. The food was wonderful, and the view over the water was nice.
After the meal, we walked around the pier, stopping in stores, and viewing the sea lions lounging on the docks. We stopped in a chocolate shop and purchased some yummy truffles, and then started to head back towards the cable car. As we were walking, there was a bicycle taxi, and decided to take that, having never used one before. Kind of fun. It was $20 for the ride, well worth it.
I purchased the tickets for the cable car from the app again, and we waited a bit for the car. The ride back was nice, as dusk was starting to settle in. After a short walk from the cable car, we arrived at the White Swan Inn for the night. Packed our suitcases, and went to bed.
